Our History
Joyce’s Jewelry has grown considerably in its more than 35 years in business. The family business, under the leadership of two generations, started out in the early 1970s as a hobby of store founder Joyce Katzeff.
Joyce’s interest in fine jewelry started at a young age when she could not wear earrings or watches because she was allergic to all metals except gold. Her mother loved jewelry too, especially diamonds. Joyce would often accompany her mother on jewelry shopping trips. She received so many compliments on her jewelry that she began taking orders from friends to fill on her next trip. She quickly realized that jewelry made people happy and knowing she was able to please someone gave her great pleasure.
“I thought if I could somehow do this for everyone, it could be a wonderful career,” Joyce Katzeff said. “My dream came true!”
In the early years, she traveled all around the area selling fine jewelry to her family and friends until her business grew large enough to open a jewelry store in her home. When Joyce opened her showroom in 1983, she had two thoughts in mind: always provide the customer with high-quality jewelry at the best prices, and make the experience the most comfortable and relaxing of any retail shopping experience around.
The first customers to step into Joyce’s Jewelry remember the coffee was always on and everyone had a story to tell. As the word spread, and Joyce’s relationships continued to grow, the time to expand arrived.
In 1989, with the help of her husband David, Joyce opened an 1,800 square foot fine jewelry store in Uniontown, PA. As Joyce’s Fine Jewelry developed, David put his wholesale jewelry company aside and joined his wife in the store, full-time.
Joyce and David’s son, Brandon, joined the team after graduating in 2007 from Marshall University with a degree in finance. Brandon attended the Gemological Institute of America where he completed the Graduate Gemologist and the Accredited Jewelry Professional programs. In 2008, Brandon spent three months in India, Dubai, and Switzerland studying jewelry design and manufacturing. In 2009, the store moved to a freestanding, 7,000 square foot location in Uniontown, PA. David, Joyce and Brandon, along with a great staff, have grown Joyce’s into the premier jewelry store in Southwestern Pennsylvania, while always keeping fine jewelry and customer service their top priority.
With more than 35 years of experience spanning two generations, Joyce’s continues to stay at the forefront of the jewelry industry while keeping our customers first. The Joyce’s team believes in building relationships and feels so lucky to bring the highest quality products to our customers by traveling the world and following the trends, sourcing only the best in high-quality jewelry.
